Farewell to Poznan
December 14, 2008 - 10:58 PM

Woke up Sunday, the cleaning lady banging on the door.

I opened the door half an inch and the manager explained it was time for me to leave.

I told them I'd be out in an hour.

I showered, and packed up my things as best I could and left my bag near reception. They were keeping a close eye on me, as I had a massive room bill, but was able to sign off on it since I had earlier given them the credit card details of our American friend, Jim.

Down in the lobby, the Sheraton was nearly deserted, while outside the first snowflakes began to drift down.

After a lingering buffet breakfast, I caught a taxi to the airport. One of the last things I saw was the ice sculptures that the protesters had set up last week, with snow gathering around their ankles.

For the first time in 12 days my head was starting to feel better. It was time to go home.
