Thursday in Poznan

I still don’t remember getting home from the Proletaryat nightclub the previous evening. I woke up on Wednesday in Poznan with a jackhammer inside my head.
I guess something was going on inside the conference, but there was no way I was getting up to hear the emissions from some old gasbag.
I could hear Xao and Gupta still raising living hell out in the corridor.
Finally I awoke on Thursday morning, a full day lost, starving and made my way to the buffet bar with hundreds of other eco-warriors. Large slabs of congealed left-over pork were still lying glistening in one of the serving trays.
It was more than 24 hours since I had eaten and I felt ravenous and nauseated all at the same time.
It was nice and warm inside, but outside, you could say it was cold. How cold? Through the window, I could see a dog stuck to a fire hydrant and penguins in the pet store.
Hey, could someone explain why we are going to Copenhagen in December next year? Hasn't anyone heard of Mauritius?
Xao and Gupta and me had got in line of the buffet and we had our plates stacked high with bacon, eggs and pancakes. Pretty soon we ran out of bacon, and I heard someone blaming big Jim from San Francisco. It wasn’t his fault, but he was apologising to everyone anyway. In fact, if only he knew we were charging it all to his room. All he got was some toast.
Word is out that the conference will create at least 13,000 tonnes of carbon emissions –more than one tonne for each participant, and probably more if Xao and Gupta get into the rum and cokes down at Proletaryat again tonight.
Did you know that the fizz in Coke gives off carbon? Or at least that’s what some guy told me at the nightclub.
My head still hurts.
